The maids on guard of Pandemonium were surprised to see this outsider again. One that radiated an otherworldly beauty similar to their divine mother. Grips tightened on their halberds, standing at full attention to appear both intimidating and to dissuade any notion they were slacking off. Nope. No slacking here.
The lead maid, Olivia, responded to Eirin’s request. “Ma’dam Yagokoro, it is an honor to have you visit Makai once more.” The maid stood aside along with her sister, allowing Eirin inside. A nameless devil in a tour guide uniform greeting Eirin within the fortress walls and providing escort to her.
“Miss Eirin~!” Shinki’s voice chimed musically as the goddess descended literally within a column of light. Her boots clicking on the smooth marble floor, she quickly rushed to greet the doctor, taking her hands into her own. “It’s so wonderful to see you again, Miss Eirin. Are you here because of your fiancee? Alyona came home to visit a while ago, so she’s still here in Makai if you were worried where she ran off too. Don’t worry, Yumeko is with her now. She must’ve just been homesick.” The goddess giggled, clearly unaware of Eirin’s intentions.
Eirin allowed herself to be led quietly through the great crystal halls of Shinki’s palace, the quiet tapping of feet only broken once the goddess herself descended into the room with a shout. The doctor had no time to offer a greeting to the woman before suddenly Shinki had already launched into her own dialogue. The word ‘fiance’ caused Eirin to stiffen somewhat. Was that what Shinki had presumed of their relationship? That was very bad, at least from the perspective of what was about to be disclosed. Still, Eirin did her best to work up a smile for her host, however faint it was.
“Thank you for having me so unexpectedly, Lady Shinki. I knew not whether I could call on you here.” Rather, she had no idea if she had even been welcome here without knowing how much about the situation Shinki knew. It had been at least a month already, so it surprised Eirin that she had not gotten suspicious of anything. However, such was the generally naive nature of the goddess. Unfortunately, Eirin had to shatter those perceptions in order to make things right.
“Indeed, you are correct that I am here to see Alyona. I needed your assistance if only to determine her location so that I may go and speak with her.” Eirin shifted, her pose taking a more vulnerable, apologetic stance. “I also have a need to speak with you concerning a certain matter. I would beg your forgiveness if I thought that I deserved it, but as things are I simply wish for you to properly know what has happened as of late. Unfortunately, not everything is as well as you might think.”
